New Year

Drone show for New Year

We have flown New Year in Iași, in Suceava and in IOR Park in Bucharest. A drone show replaces fireworks with no fire, no smoke and none of the noise that frightens animals — and it can be rebuilt every year with new content.

More and more Romanian city halls have dropped their New Year fireworks. Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Ploiești, Iași, Brașov, Suceava and Buzău are only the ones that announced it publicly. The reasons repeat: pets, the debris left in the parks, and the fire safety perimeter a pyrotechnic display needs in the middle of a city.

A drone show solves all three and adds something fireworks cannot: local content. The city coat of arms, the year beginning, a message for the community — drawn in the sky at 100–150 metres, visible across the whole centre.

Why it works on the night

No fire, no debris

There is no pyrotechnic safety perimeter to set up and nothing to clear out of the parks the next morning.

It does not frighten animals

This is the argument city halls come to us with most often. From viewing distance the drones are effectively silent.

The countdown, in the sky

The last ten seconds of the year drawn above the crowd, then the new year and the message from the city. It is the moment everyone films.

Repeatable, differently, every year

The same drones, a different show. The content is rewritten completely from one year to the next — a fireworks display cannot do that.

How many drones New Year needs

On the night the audience is spread over a wide area and watching from very different distances. That calls for a larger show than a private event:

100–150 drones

A small town or a resort. Countdown, the new year and two or three figures.

200–300 drones

The usual configuration for a larger municipality. The coat of arms becomes legible and text reads from across the square.

400+ drones

Large cities, where the show is announced as an attraction in its own right with its own slot on 31 December.

What drives the cost of a New Year show

31 December is the highest-demand date of the year, and that changes the arithmetic:

  • The number of drones, matched to the area the show has to be visible from.
  • The date itself — 31 December is allocated first and sells out first.
  • Flight clearances inside the city and coordination with the local authorities.
  • Custom content: the coat of arms, landmark buildings, the message from the city.
  • The safety zone and securing it, with a large crowd and low temperatures.
  • Rehearsal and on-site testing, mandatory for the larger configurations.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a New Year drone show cost?

It depends on the number of drones, the site and how complex the clearances are in the city centre. Send us the city and the location you have in mind and we come back with an estimate per configuration.

When should New Year be booked?

As early as possible. We recommend talking in September or October: public procurement runs through the autumn, and the large configurations are allocated months ahead.

Can it replace fireworks completely?

Yes, and that is exactly why most city halls come to us. The two can also be combined: a drone show followed by a short pyrotechnic moment, where local rules allow it.

Do you take part in public tenders?

Yes. We prepare the technical documentation and the offer in the format the procedure requires. Tell us the deadlines and the documents needed.

What happens if the weather does not allow the flight on the night itself?

The weather limits and the fallback are set in the contract. For New Year we usually fix a second flight window the same night, because the date cannot move.

Can you fly in the cold?

Yes. Winter affects battery endurance, so we plan with margin and keep the batteries warm until take-off. We have flown New Year in Iași and Suceava, where the cold is real.

Planning New Year in your city?

Tell us the city, the site and the expected size of the crowd. We come back with configuration options and the documentation the procedure needs.
