Baia Mare – Chestnut Festival 2026
A multimedia show for Sărbătoarea Castanelor, Baia Mare’s chestnut festival, flown on both evenings of 19 and 20 September 2026 over the city centre, with fireworks and a narrated soundtrack. The first night’s programme told the city’s own history in sequence: the Săsar finding its way through the valley, the miners leaving before dawn, and the name the place first entered history under in 1329 — Rivulus Dominarum, the River of the Ladies.
From there it followed the parchment of 20 September 1347 that granted the town its rights — 679 years to the day before the show’s second evening — the royal fortress, Turnul Ștefan above it, the painters who arrived in 1896 and stayed for the light, the furnaces, Minaur, the looms of the grandmothers, and the foundation stone of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in 1990, closing on the city’s own heart-shaped mark above the crowd. Drones, pyrotechnics and voiceover ran on one timeline: each figure had to arrive on the sentence that named it.
