FLYSTACK at BIAS 2026: Romania first daytime pyrotechnic drone show

At the 2026 edition of the Bucharest International Air Show, FLYSTACK delivered the first pyrotechnic drone show ever flown in broad daylight in Romania. The moment opened the ceremony and was dedicated to the national flag.

The opening ceremony: the Romanian flag, drawn in the sky

On Saturday 29 August at 09:45, the opening ceremony of BIAS 2026 marked a national first. Hundreds of pyrotechnic drones rose above Baneasa Airport and drew the Romanian flag — a kind of show that until now could only be staged after dark.

A daytime drone show works on different principles from a night one. LED light, which builds the picture after dark, is irrelevant under the sun. The image has to be made another way: with coloured smoke, with formation, and with the precision that holds hundreds of aircraft in position. It is a different discipline, with its own design, flight and clearance requirements.

BIAS 2026 was the best attended edition so far: more than 200,000 spectators passed through Baneasa Airport across the two days, a record for the event. The daylight drone show opened its main day.

Technology developed and built in Romania

The drones that flew at BIAS 2026 are developed and manufactured in Romania. FLYSTACK is the first pyrotechnic drone manufacturer in Europe, and the opening-ceremony show was delivered entirely on our own equipment — from the aircraft to the choreography software and the safety procedures.

The 2026 premiere continues a direction opened in December 2025, when FLYSTACK flew the first pyrotechnic drone show in Romania. The difference this time is daylight.

The FLYSTACK stand

Across both days of the air show, FLYSTACK had its own stand in the exhibition area. We presented the technology behind the shows, the capabilities of the fleet and its uses — from private events to large public moments — and visitors could talk directly to the people who build the shows.

Each drone in the fleet had its own display totem explaining its role: the light drones, which build the image with LEDs, and the pyrotechnic drones, which add fire and smoke — the ones that made the daylight moment possible.

The evening show

The main day closed with a drone show after dark, at the end of the flying displays, around 21:00. The same team and the same procedures — in a completely different visual register from the daytime moment.

Where the morning image was built from coloured smoke and from formation read against daylight, the evening brought in the classic language of drone shows: LED light, contrast with a dark sky, and transitions between figures. Two different disciplines, flown by the same fleet, on the same day.

The evening choreography ran through the visual vocabulary of the event: the words BIAS 2026 written in the sky, aircraft silhouettes drawn in drones — an aerobatic aircraft, a fighter, a helicopter — and finally the FLYSTACK logo, all above the crowd that stayed to the last item on the programme.

What comes next

A daylight show opens a new category for events that cannot be held in the evening: official ceremonies, sporting events, openings and anniversaries scheduled during the day.
